COVID-19 now Wayne County’s leading cause of death

According to numbers released this week by the Wayne County Health Department, COVID-19 is now the county’s number one killer.  The health department says 31 people in Wayne County died last month from the respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus, which accounted for 26 percent of the county’s total deaths.  It has been the top killer this month as well, with 13 additional deaths reported as of May 13^th.  Health department officials attribute April’s high death toll to coronavirus outbreaks at a pair of local nursing homes.
