The Cleveland Guardians were able to defeat the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night by a final score of 5-3.

For Cleveland (91-70), the Guardians were trailing 1-0 until the bottom of the 5th inning when All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez hit a two-run double to take a 2-1 lead. That same inning, the Guardians got more runs with an RBI single by All-Star second baseman Andres Gimenez and a two-run homerun by first baseman Owen Miller to take a 5-1 lead through five innings. Starting pitcher Cal Quantrill earned his 15th win of the season for going 5.0 complete innings, striking out four batters and allowing four hits for one earned run. Closer Emmanuel Clase earned his 42nd save of the season for going 1.0 inning in the 9th and allowing one hit for one earned run, but striking out two batters.

For Kansas City (65-96), the Royals got on the board in the top of the 5th inning when third baseman Nicky Lopez hit an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. The Royals would get a run in the 8th inning due to outfielder Nate Eaton scoring on a wild pitch and a run in the 9th inning due to second baseman Michael Massey hitting into a fielder’s choice to score a run, but the comeback was unsuccessful and fell to Cleveland 5-3. Starting pitcher Daniel Lynch suffered his 13th loss of the season for going 4.2 innings, striking out two batters and allowing eight hits for five earned runs.

The Cleveland Guardians will wrap up this home series and the regular season against the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, October 5th, with first pitch set for 4:10 p.m.
