A former Mayor of Marshallville has been sentenced to the maximum of five years in prison on a sexual battery charge. 52-year old John Sohar had been convicted of sexually assaulting a teenager in his office at Marlington High School. He was working as a counselor at the time. The judge in the case sentenced him to the maximum sentence for the third degree felony. Following release from prison, Sohar must register as a sex offender for his lifetime, providing in-person verification of his address to authorities every 90 days. The defense attorney told the judge his client will appeal the verdict.
