The American Red Cross and Holmes County Fire District 1 will team together to install smoke detectors in mobile homes and house in April. Millersburg Council was recently given a presentation on the program, which was started in 2014, and has seen over 1,000 detectors put in homes since. The detectors are supplied by the Red Cross and installed by firefighters, with 2 installed in mobile homes and 3 to 4 in a regular home. A bed shaker alarm will also be provided for those that are hearing impaired, all free of charge. The bed shaker alarm is placed in a bed or under a pillow and is activated by a smoke alarm.
