Smithville man killed, child injured in single-vehicle accident

The State Highway Patrol says that a Smithville man was killed and a 12-year-old passenger was injured Saturday evening in a one-vehicle crash here in Wayne County. The incident happened just after 6:00 pm on Smithville Western Road west of State Route 83 in Wayne Township.  . Authorities say that John Murray was driving his car westbound on Smithville Western Road when he apparently went left of center and lost control of his vehicle. Murray, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The 12-year-old passenger was flown to a nearby hospital where his condition is unknown at his time. The incident remains under investigation.
