A group of Canaan Township residents spoke out recently at a public hearing put on by the Ohio EPA concerning a permit request at the Wiles Storage Pond, on Pleasant Home Road.  The Quasar Energy Group, which operates the pond, is asking for the new permit so that it can accept biosolids at the pond from several different facilities.  Currently, the pond is only used to store material from the Buckeye BioGas plant in Wooster.  The residents are asking the EPA to deny the permit, citing their concerns over odor and the potential for drinking water contamination.
